CELTIC THUNDER - IRELAND
FROM DUBLIN WITH LOVEIn 2007, producer Sharon Browne organized the first Celtic Thunder performance at the Helix in Dublin, Ireland. The concept was to assemble a group of men from Ireland and Scotland, aged between 21 and 42, performing songs that reflect a shared Celtic heritage.
The initial show presented a range of songs, from traditional pieces to international hits and original works. The current cast includes Emmet Cahill, Neil Byrne, Damian McGinty, and Ronan Scolard.
Each member of Celtic Thunder performs both solo and as part of the ensemble, accompanied by the Celtic Thunder Band. Their concerts include lighting effects, choreography, and stage sets resembling an ancient stone pathway, relating to elements of Celtic history.
The group’s first CD/DVD, “Celtic Thunder – The Show,” was released in March 2008. Subsequent tours took place in the United States and Canada, and a second CD titled “Act II” was released. In 2009, they released “Take Me Home,” with subsequent releases including “It’s Entertainment” in 2010, which paid tribute to US pop culture. Later albums such as “Heritage,” “Voyage,” and “New Voyage” marked a return to Irish and Scottish musical roots. A Christmas CD and DVD were issued in October 2010.
In 2011, they released “Heritage” in February and their first theatrical production, “Storm,” in August. That year also included a US tour with the Heritage show. In 2013, Celtic Thunder returned to the Helix in Dublin to record “Mythology,” their ninth DVD and tenth CD, which combined entertainment with themes from Celtic storytelling traditions.
“Holiday Symphony,” a collection of Christmas standards, was released in Fall 2014. In 2015, “The Very Best Of Celtic Thunder” was released, and a nine-week North American tour covered 45 cities.
Celtic Thunder joined Sony Records’ Legacy label in 2014. Their albums “Holiday Symphony” and “The Very Best of Celtic Thunder” were among the first releases on the label; their entire back catalog was re-released in October 2015.
In March 2015, the group filmed their “Legacy” show at Casino Rama in Canada, delivering two volumes on CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, and vinyl. Following this, they toured 16 Australian cities in May 2016 and subsequently toured North America.
Before their 2017 US Symphony Tour, Celtic Thunder filmed “Celtic Thunder X,” a 10th anniversary show at the Helix in Dublin, featuring a selection of Irish songs and classic hits. This release led to further tours in the US and Canada during 2018.
In 2019, the group made plans for their “Celtic Thunder Ireland” album and tour. These activities were rescheduled to 2022 as a result of the global pandemic. During 2020 and 2021, they held twelve series of online Stage-It Concerts, each with themed programming and principal artists, attracting over 60,000 ticket sales.
In 2022, Celtic Thunder resumed touring across the US and Canada. By the end of the year, the group completed fourteen tours across North America and four in Australia, collectively amounting to more than 1,000 performances. They also participated in four Caribbean music cruises.
Celtic Thunder will launch its sixteenth US tour, “An Intimate Evening with Celtic Thunder,” in Fall 2025, featuring current members and special guests.
