WHY THE LEGACY KNOT?

The theme of Celtic Thunder’s latest show LEGACY is a reflection of the amazing heritage and ethos in Ireland that has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries now. Nowhere is that legacy more prevalent than in the Celtic Knot. It is the one of the oldest and most recognizable symbols of our Celtic-ness and it seemed fitting to pay homage to that Legacy in the 2016 Signature Pendant.

THE INSPIRATION

The design of our signature pendant mirrors the design the of the LEGACY logo. Inspired from Ireland’s most precious treasure, The Book of Kells, The Legacy Knot pendant incorporates an Endless or Mystic knot. While it draws on an ancient pattern, it is beautifully designed with a modern, light and contemporary feel. Handmade in sterling silver by the finest Irish craftsmen and women and presented on a 18′ sterling silver chain. As with all Celtic Knots, The Legacy Knot brings with it wishes of longevity and luck with new endeavors.

HISTORY OF THE CELTIC KNOT

Like their design, endless Celtic knots seems to have no beginning and no end in our lives. They appear in the earliest cave art and are everywhere in our daily lives. The use of only one thread highlights the Celts’ belief in the interconnectedness of life and eternity. Many virtues have been associated with Celtic knots, including wisdom, strength, love, compassion, and honesty. The most famous work from this tradition is a Celtic manuscript, the illustrious Book of Kells from the 6th Century whose pages are decorated with Celtic art and knots. The Book of Kells is part of a series of Irish manuscripts created from the 5th to 10th Centuries, beginning with the Book of Durrow in the fifth century.
